"HASP"
(The Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan)
The government documents linked to this page (and to which no copyright
claim is made) represent very basic information on a new government
program that is designed to assist homeowners who are under financial
stress and whose homes have suddenly lost value due to the downturn
in the housing market. It encourages and incentivizes modifcation
of the terms of qualifying mortgages.
If the reader is interested in considering this program, it is suggested
that he or she begin collecting financial information related to
his or her family's income, taxes and property values, and seek
consultation with a HUD-Approved
Housing Counseling Agency.
Another excellent link to review for additional consultation is
that of the nonprofit organization: HOPENOW.
Additional information and regulations are anticipated to be released
on or after March 3, 2009.
This office cannot charge a fee for housing counseling or
modification of a delinquent loan under HASP.
